A Tour of UNIX File System:Absolute Directory Names

• A directory name (a.k.a. pathname) consists of the sequence of subdirectory names starting from the “root” directory of the file system to the desired directory.

/home/course/cs101b1/smith

/cs/www/html

/var/spool/mail
